In previous articles, I have discussed how to select a niche market in order to find customers for your products and services. I’ve also talked about how important it is to know what you are actually selling. This is very important and not as easy as it sounds. Today I address the first step in how to attract the right prospect to your internet home based business opportunity.

You are not trying to attract just any prospect. Instead, your intention is to attract the perfect prospect for your business. In order to find that prospect, you must determine the best target market.

So you need to ask these two questions. Would you rather be attracting people who know they want to earn additional income but don’t know why they need an internet marketing opportunity? Or would you rather attract those people who already know why they want an internet marketing opportunity?

The answer is fairly obvious. If the prospect doesn’t know why they need an internet business, you will need to spend a lot of time convincing them why they do. This market can be classified as business opportunity seekers. They already know that they want to make additional income. They just don’t realize that an internet marketing business is there best alternative.

On the other hand, if the prospect already knows why they want an internet marketing opportunity, much of the work has already been done. Now, all you need to do is sell yourself. This is not necessarily easy but can be done. I will share more on this in future articles.

So what markets should you target if you are looking for people who are already searching for an internet business?

1. People who have been in an internet home based business before. They are already familiar with that type of business model. They know that it works. Their objective is to find the right business.
2. Those people who have decided to join your company and are looking for the best leader or upline.

In the next few days I will write an article that discusses how to attract people from these two markets. The key is to know your prospects’ needs and how to provide them value.

These methods will provide a stark contrast to those taught by MLM companies in the past. They have nothing to do with chasing after friends and family, inviting people to hotel meetings, or cold-calling long lists of leads purchased from lead companies. Most of these people have no interest in what you have to offer.

The marketing methods I am talking about will actually attract people from your target market. The information you provide them will allow you to build a trusting relationship with them. This will bring them to a point where they are chasing you and asking you if they can join your internet home based business opportunity. I will cover all of this in a subsequent article.

In worse case situations, the press release is pitched, never seeing the light of day.

For a press release to have half a chance of making into the newspaper, it has to have some sort of news value. A promotion or an appointment of an employee is always welcome in most papers but the release has to be about the person with your company name mentioned as an ad near the bottom. Releases that talk about new, exciting products can be useful but sending out a monthly press release is generally a waste of time.

Customer referrals can go both ways, depending on their experience with your business. It has been estimated that a customer who has a good experience will tell six of their friends. A customer who has a bad experience will tell 13. The best way to get new business is to treat the customer right every time you deal with them. Even if it means losing a few bucks on a sale item, by giving them a hard time, even if they are completely wrong, it can cost a whole lot more in future business from them and their friends and family.

Watch Out For The Hype

Most, make it seem like it’s a cinch to easily find scores of prospects on the Internet and simply herd them to your website by the thousands like stampeding cattle. Well, either those writers have been very lucky, or they’ve never really made any money online at all. Most likely, they’ve written their article for the sole purpose of pointing you to an online business opportunity for which “they” will earn an commission if you buy.

Actually, I was reading just such an article a few days ago, it read “Affiliate marketing is truly a win-win situation. Just pick a product and start promoting it. If it doesn’t sell, then simply switch to another one. Affiliate marketing is one of the simplest and most effective business opportunities on the web today.” In the most simplistic terms, these statements are true. But I think we’ve got the blind leading the blind here.

If you actually want to make money with an Internet home business, I can almost guarantee, that kind of superficial advice and simplistic thinking will set you up for failure. In my opinion, that writer’s advice was just about the worse advice imaginable. I say that because at the end of the day, an Internet home business is still, “a business”.

Set Realistic Expectations

In order to be successful, you’ll need to do your homework, select your products carefully, set up your blog correctly, put together an effective capture page, come up with compelling free offers and subscriber incentives to build your opt-in list, & set up your autoresponders & follow-up letters so you can keep in touch with those prospects you worked so hard to get to your site.

You’ll also need to plan your marketing campaign strategically,prepare several informative and keyword-rich articles, register with the right social networking sites and blog directories, set up your rss feeds, develop your power-linking skills, track your statistics, and overcome a very steep learning curve.

And let me caution you about something, if you expect to start a successful Internet home business without investing in the tools and resources your business needs… you’re in for a huge disappointment. Irritable Online Marketing Syndrome (IOMS) more commonly known as information overload may be the number one barrier to Web site marketing success. Whether you own an online home business or full-fledged internet business you may find yourself affected by this disease which stops newbies and intermediate users in their tracks, although veterans may find themselves sometimes impacted as well.

Some people consider IOMS as being purely psychological, as in “the wall” that runners hit during a marathon. However, the malady really occurs as the result of individuals not understanding that true internet marketing may be considered a course of study and not merely some “get-rich-quick” tactics.

The benefits you seek should not only keep your interest, but because graduation usually means introduction to a higher paying career, everything you select should motivate you enough to absorb all that you can. Now, for me, I can easily manage three different programs, as far studying them — your situation may differ, but trying to juggle 10 or so marketing paradigms is difficult at best.

3. Set aside ample time for class and for study. It never ceases to amaze me that people will pay for a higher education and then spend most of their time partying.

While I know all work and no play makes John a dull boy, the real partying begins after graduation. You can’t master a discipline without putting forth the effort to learn.

It may not be complex, but it can still take a long time to master. The easiest way to do this is to commit to a set amount of time every day to study whatever activity you choose.
