Online college for business management–OR–work experience as manager?
Which one is better??
I would like to become a manager at my current job (fast food) and then have that on my resume for a while and eventually build myself up for a bigger business. But am i wasting my time with just working as a manager at fast food..does that experience even count?
OR…should i be starting some online classes for business management??
I have no time to go to college, literally, that is why i am only thinking of online colleges. I was researching University of Pheonix actually. It seems like a good school.

Working as a manager is great experience, why don’t you attend some classes aat your local college. The cost is pretty much the same as the online courses, but I think many of these are a scam, so even legit one will get grouped in the same way.
Managing people can’t be taught in school, and any experience you get supervising will be useful to you later. It will also make your future business courses more relevant.
I also agree with dfgriffinny that a community college would beat an online course. You get more out of a real classroom with real people and can network better.
Just a quick NOTE:
Almost every major corporation in this country is run, in part, by a large number of MBA’s. And a large part of this degree is the study of management.
We are rewarded for being able to do things others can’t. The fewer people who can do it the greater the reward for those who can. This is the essence of capitalism.
So you have to ask yourself honestly, how much does your experience outweigh everyone else you would be in competition with. You can augment this with more experience and/or education.
People who graduate from Harvard tend to get snapped up very quickly by the largest firms and for large starting salaries, all with no experience other then their Schooling. So again, you have to ask your self if your experience outweighs these kinds of graduates.
This is a pretty extreme example but I want you to understand the value of education. The truth is, the base you build now usually determines how high you will be able to build your career. Not always, but usually.
Any kind of education is better then none so a junior college, while not being Harvard, is still the right direction. For various reasons I would prefer a university degree over an online degree, but I would certainly choose the online degree over nothing.
Remember, having experience and a degree is a big advantage over those with a degree only.
