What is the best way to get a start-up loan for a small business when you need it to even begin your business?

My husband would like to start up his own tree stump grinding and tree trimming business, but all of the small business loans we have investigated require proof of one year profits. We would need a small business loan in order to purchase the equipment necessary to begin the business. Are there loans for this?

A small business loan is one of the most treasured commodities in the business world. It is still very hard to get despite the claims and promises of banks, credit unions and other lending institutions that they want to help American small business to survive and grow. In fact it sometimes seems that banks and other lenders want to see small businesses fail and only support those that survive the battle for customers, revenues, and finances during their first two years.

Getting a small business loan is most difficult during these first two years, when most businesses face a myriad of challenges involved with not only opening their doors, but hiring and training staff and meeting the demands of customers, clients suppliers and vendors. Seriously, wouldn’t you be? You may have better luck finding money through venture capitalists that specialize in business startups or you can try an appeal to groups like prosper.com for private funding. Do you have a business plan? If not, that should be your first step no matter where you go for financial help. Have you contacted the professionals at SBA or Score for advice and guidance??? You have a few things to get done before you start haphazardly applying for loans and credit. Do you have your own personal finances in order? Have you seen your credit reports/scores??? Borrowing money isn’t always the answer to starting a business when you have no equity to offer. Can you say “no money down mortgage?” … You can probably get the financing you need but you have to be able to prove your credit worthiness not only to a financial lender but to yourself. If you can’t make out a realistic budget on paper (business plan), you probably won’t be able to make it in the real world. Plan your work and work your plan!!!
